Election FAQ

Who is Eligible to Serve on the Executive Committee?

“Only individuals representing neighborhood associations that are members of the CNA may serve on the Executive Committee.”  Any member of an RNA whose governing body approves them to be their representative to the CNA. That means that they don’t have to be on the RNA’s Board, but they must be someone that the governing body agrees to designate as their representative to the CNA should they be elected.

Can more than one person from a single RNA compete for positions on the Executive Board?

That depends on the decision of the RNA.  An important consideration is that no more than one official representative per association can serve on the Executive Committee at one time.  If two people receive the most votes from the same RNA for two different positions, it will be up to the RNA’s governing body to select one to hold the position.  In that event, the election for the ineligible (withdrawn) position will be held at the next regular or special meeting.

Who Can Vote?
The Representative of RNA in attendance votes.  Each attending RNA is allowed one vote. “Members” are “Neighborhood associations recognized by the City of Olympia are eligible to become voting members of the CNA”.   In the bylaws, this means that a member is equal to an RNA, not each member of the RNA.

Voting

“The Executive Committee will be elected by a simple majority of members (one per RNA) at an election meeting.”

Are there other limits on who can serve on the Executive Committee?

Yes.  “Individuals who are elected officials of local governments and those who have declared candidacy for election to local government may not serve on the Executive Committee.”
